When a property undergoes an environmental assessment, subterranean soil sampling is required for characterizing the site, as well as installing ground water monitoring wells for ground water sampling. A drilling rig (auger) is brought in to drill bore-holes for obtaining soil samples at various depths, and for installing monitoring-well casings. The material removed for the monitoring well may contain trace contaminants and is contained in 200L drums to avoid leaching to the environment.
